Education for action. Low-cost action strategies for the sustainable development of oasis architecture. (2015)

COMMUNICATION IN CONGRESS: (Communication in conference)

Title: Education for action. Low-cost action strategies for the sustainable development of oasis architecture.

  • Author(s): Angela Ruiz Plaza.
  • Conference’s title: “XI International Congress Education, Culture and Development”.
  • Place (place): University of Malaga.
  • Summary: We are in an era of big change. The frenetic pace of growth in developing countries makes radical action, from research and through education, essential and necessary to make the development of “developing countries” truly sustainable. This research paper shows a proposal for action for the sustainable development of desert oases and architectures through a system of applied strategies. They are proposals for easy implementation action that correspond to a real project, already initiated, in the oasis of M’hamid, in the Moroccan Sahara, within a framework of cooperation, collaboration and education, which has a vocation to materialize in guidelines to follow by the inhabitants of the oases and associations themselves, and that serve to make their habitat an example of sustainability, squeezing to the maximum its potential for an optimal future to inhabit the desert. They are systems of strategies and actions such as: sand bricks compacted by microbiological processes, tree incubators, artificial rain, solid water, agricultural systems based on geomagnetism, construction with fire, rehabilitation with nopal, sandpods or moisturizers, malkafs or wind towers, etc.
  • Keywords: Sustainability, oasis, desert, technology, innovative systems, sustainable development.
