Building a space. Approach to the reality of architectural practice. (2012)

COMMUNICATION IN CONGRESS: (Communication in conference)

Title: Building a space Approach to the reality of architectural practice. (2012)

  • Author(author) : María Asunción Salgado de la Rosa and Oscar Collado Fernández.
  • Conference's title: IX International Conference of University Innovation.
  • Place: Madrid, Spain.
  • Summary: The scenario dictated by the new degrees requires university teachers to reflect on the relationship between their subject and the professional world. In a picture as uncertain as the current one, the promotion of certain competencies in the classroom, such as learning through error, responsibility for the work done and the management of teams, make a difference. Aware of this responsibility, two professors from the UEM School of Architecture decided to join forces and jointly develop a staged work model that professionally scans the entire process that a project requires. This project would focus on a model whose development was fully in line with the course programme. The first phase would begin with the statement of the exercise presented in contest format. Each student individually had to develop a model. In a second phase, once the winning proposals were chosen, the entire class would be involved in the actual execution of these models according to the parameters set out in the exercise. This simulation of reality in the university field, contributed to the understanding by students of the criteria of competence that dictates the degree and our responsibility to society.
  • Abstract: The scenario dictated by the new degrees requires university teachers to reflect on the relationship between their subject and the professional world. In a scenario as uncertain as the current one, the promotion of certain skills in the classroom, such as learning through error, responsibility for the work done and the management of teams, make the difference. Aware of this responsibility, two professors from the School of Architecture of the UEM, we decided to join forces and jointly a proposed model of work by stages that professionally swept all the process that requires a project. This project would focus on a model whose development fully conformed to the program of the subject. The first phase would start with the statement of the exercise exposed in a contest format. Each student individually had to develop a model. In a second phase, eleven the winning proposals have been chosen, the whole class would be involved in the current execution of said models according to the parameters set out in the exercise. This simulation of reality in the university environment, contributed to the students' understanding of the competence assessment criteria dictated by the degree and our responsibility towards society.
